Powering communities with safe, reliable, clean energy.

A Mission Driven by Need.

The del Sol foundation for energy security provides aid to individuals and entire communities in need, including those impacted by energy instability, who would benefit from clean, reliable and affordable energy.

In 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico destroying the power grid and plummeting its people into darkness and providing the catalyst for opening the del Sol Foundation for Energy Security. The foundation immediately activated key partnerships with leading clean energy providers and local leaders, to build humanitarian microgrids throughout the island. Today, our initial 15 solar and battery microgrids continue to serve over 4,000 people with life-saving access to clean and reliable energy.

As the growing effects of climate change continue to impact people in Puerto Rico and beyond, the del Sol Foundation and our partners have a bold vision to continue expanding our humanitarian work to provide greater energy equity to all.

Partnerships with Impact.

We partner with global energy technology companies to source the best-in-class solar plus battery microgrid technology that solves immediate needs and creates lasting “clean, resilient energy villages”. Our work with local community leaders and partners also ensures the successful and rapid implementation of our humanitarian projects, re-powering people as quickly as possible.

A Hand Up, Not a Handout.

The del Sol Foundation is different from other nonprofits and local electrical providers because of our commitment to providing the people we serves with a different kind of “power” – the economic and social power that comes from having the freedom to manage their own energy future. In addition to providing the technology at no cost to the community, we also help train local workers to manage and maintain each site, which grows the local clean energy economy.

Saving Lives with Vital Energy.

Our microgrids are deployed for a variety of humanitarian purposes, providing a vital source of power for:

  • Kitchens for food preparation

  • Refrigeration for food and medical supply storage

  • Clean water filtration systems

  • Lights, power strips and routers for Internet access

  • Floor standing and “split” air conditioning systems

  • Washing machines that enable residents to wash their clothes with clean water

“Recognizing the ability to use solar and batteries to power our lives, no matter what happens, is how we move forward for future generations - it’s a dream come true.”

— Christine Nievas., Community Activist, Humacao, Puerto Rico

Impact That Matters.
